About Our Program

Pawsitive Works™ is a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to helping at risk youth through canine intervention. Shelter dogs, youth at risk - shaping both ends of the leash! Our Mission: Pawsitive Works helps struggling youth identify and modify damaging behavior patterns through the care and training of behaviorally challenged dogs. We believe that the human-animal connection facilitates trust, empathy and empowerment. We further believe that the youth’s responsibility for modifying canine problem behaviors with the assistance of adults trained in canine positive reinforcement methods will build self esteem and respect for the needs of others as well as an awareness of how they can contribute in positive ways to their own communities.

How we got involved with the Spokane Humane Society: When Executive Director Dave Richardson heard about Pawsitive Works at an award ceremony, he knew it was a program that would be great for the Spokane Humane Society and the wonderful dogs waiting for homes there. Dave facilitated the partnership with Wellpinit School and SHS to provide an opportunity for Pawsitive Works to make a difference. This Pilot Program is serving TWELVE youth and TWELVE shelter dogs!
